Quilter’s euphoria

Montage of picture pieced quilts.

Have you made a quilt that left you overcome with joy?

I had a totally unexpected reaction to making my first picture piecing quilt.  I was hooked from sewing the first three pieces together.  At the end of the 1000 piece quilt, it was pinned to the design wall.  I sat back to admire my efforts and took a deep breath and then another.  This graduated into low, slow, deep oooohs and ahhhs… for 15 minutes!  My hands were firmly on my face in disbelief that I could make the kind of quilt I had dreamed of making for a long time.  Luckily I was the only one home, as to someone standing outside the sewing room door, it would have sounded like I was doing something else…

To say that I was addicted would be an understatement. Making these landscape quilts always gives me a jolt of euphoria—I just keep the noise down now!

Happy quilting,

Fiona
